There was a lot of snow in Washington, DC this weekend—far more than my swampland hometown is accustomed to getting. Weather forced such sad facts as a postponed film screening, a postponed flight, and a breakfast of two coffees and two thumb-sized croissants that cost $20.35.
Luckily, the bookstores were open. Among my purchases: Tillie Olsen's Silences and Ishmael Reed's Mumbo Jumbo, from Second Story; and Ioanna Karystiani's Swell and Frank Stanford's Conditions Uncertain and Likely to Pass Away, from Bridge Street Books.
